This guide includes a wide variety of types of inductors. The molded type tends to be the most selected due to it high current handling capability as a result of the metal alloy composite and its soft magnetic saturation. This allows for relatively low DCRs and high power handling. Inside this category exists further cost and performance trade offs. The other two types tend to feature ferrite constructions which lend hand to higher inductance values not seen by other types. While the traditional shielded types have higher performance, the resin shielded type provides the best cost advantage, although often at the expense of a larger size. These also tend to have higher voltage ratings than other types of inductors.
