Abracon | High-Efficiency Voltage Regulation with Abracon's AVR…

Abracon's AVR family of Assembly Inductors offer advanced and cost-effective solutions for voltage regulation in modern applications. These inductors are distinguished by their unique clip construction, enabling the lowest DCR inductor type in the market. They are suitable for traditional DC-DC conversion circuits and/or as compensation inductors with our ATL TLVR inductors in TLVR multiphase topologies.

Most common use cases for these inductors are for centralized processing applications such as data centers, cloud computing, supercomputers, rack servers, crypto mining, and AI/ML servers. Other applications that benefit from the uniquely high current handling capabilities are electric vehicles (EVs), industrial controls, and DC motor controllers.

Key features include ferrite-based construction, inductance range of 55nH to 680nH, operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C, DCR as low as 0.100 mΩ, and saturation currents up to 160A.

Utilization within TLVR Topologies

While these Assembly Inductors are more cost effective in traditional DC-DC circuits than molded inductors, for multiphase power supplies, designers can further optimize their designs by transitioning to a TLVR topology. Compared to traditional multiphase topologies, TLVR architectures provide a quicker and more efficient response to changes in power demand. Key advantages of switching to a TLVR architecture and utilizing Abracon’s ATL and AVR family of inductors are:

  • Rapid response to transient loads ensures high bandwidth, minimal latency, and high throughput
  • Reduce system impedance, simplifying power system design and cutting costs
  • Increases energy efficiency, as less power is dissipated as heat

In TLVR topologies, a TLVR inductor (Lmnis employed for each power phase, allowing the system-level current supply to exceed hundreds of amps. On the primary side of the TLVR inductors, a compensation inductor (Lc1) is required to regulate supply by smoothing and adjusting the phase relative to the voltage, increasing phase margin and ensuring stable operation. The diagram below showcases how Abracon ATL and AVR products fit into TLVR designs.
